Making Ribbon Bows

A tutorial on making a variety of different kinds of bows using ribbon.
Basic Bow 
Basic Bow
1. Cut a length of ribbon twice as long as you want your bow to be wide plus 2 inches. Fold the ribbon in half with the ends overlapping at the center back.

2. Wrap a piece of 26 gauge wire around the center of the ribbon.

3. Take another piece of ribbon and tie it around the center of the bow to make the tails.

4. Arrange the tails and trim them to the desired length.

Triple Bow

 1. Following steps 1 to 2 for the basic bow make 3 bows of 3 different sizes.

2. Wire the 3 bows together.

3. Take another length of ribbon and tie it around the center of the bows to form tails.

 Flower Bow

1. Cut six 5 inch long pieces of ribbon. Cut the ends at an angle.

2. Hold the pieces together and wrap a piece of 26 gauge wire around the middle.

3. Take another piece of ribbon, tie it around the center and cut the ends to match the other pieces.

4. Spread the ribbons out.

Loop Bow

1. Cut 2 yards of ribbon. Loop one end around your thumb leaving a 6 inch tail.

2. Make a 4 inch loop of ribbon facing away from you.

3. Make another 4 inch loop of ribbon facing towards you. Make 10 more loops alternating directions.

4. Put a piece of 26 gauge wire through the thumb loop and wrap it tightly around the back. Spread the loops out and trim the tails to the desired length. 

Stapled Bow

1 Cut a piece of ribbon twice as long as you want the bow to be wide plus 2 inches. Fold the ribbon in half with the edges overlapping at the center back and staple in place.

2 Make 2 smaller bows in the same way.

3 Staple the 3 bows together.

4 Take another piece of ribbon and wrap it around the center of the bow and glue it at the back.

5 Take 2 more pieces of ribbon and glue them to the center back of the bow to form tails. 

Round Bow

1. Cut four 10 inch long pieces of ribbon. Fold each one in half with the ends overlapping at the center back and staple in the center.

2. Take two of the pieces and overlap them in a cross shape. Staple them together. Do the same with the remaining two pieces.

3. Put one of the cross pieces on top of the other and staple them together.

4. Cut four 8 inch long pieces of ribbon. Follow steps one to three.

5. Put the smaller bow on top of the larger bow and staple them together.

6. Glue a circle of ribbon in the center of the bow over the staples. 

Skinny Bow

1. Take two yards of a narrow width ribbon. Make a loop using 6 inches of ribbon. Hold the loop in the center. Make 9 more loops.

2. Wrap a piece of 26 gauge wire around the middle of the bow.

3. Take another piece of ribbon and wrap it around the wire leaving 2 long tails.

4. Tie the tails at the back to secure and trim them to the length you want. 

Big Bow

1. Take a 3 1/2 yards long piece of ribbon and wrap one end around your thumb.

2. Make an 8 inch loop of ribbon facing away from yourself.

3. Make an 8 inch loop towards yourself. Make 4 more loops alternating directions.

4. Then make six 10 inch loops in the same way.

5. Put a piece of 26 gauge wire through the thumb loop and wrap it tightly around the back.

6. Spread the loops out.
